See which networks share or overlap your channel on 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz, and pick a quieter one.
Signal Over Time
Watch signal rise and fall as you move around, for one network or several at once.
Network and Advanced Details
Everything one network advertises, from security and max speed to every part of its beacon in plain text.
Signal in the Menu Bar
Your connection's strength at a glance, with channel, noise and speed one click away.
On-Device and Private
No network code, no accounts, no analytics.
How it works
- Open Rae.Noted and click Grant Access. macOS requires Location access before any app can show Wi-Fi names.
- Read the table. Sort by signal or channel to see what's around you.
- Open Channels to see which networks overlap yours.
- Change the channel in your router's settings, then check the graph again.
Features

SSID, BSSID, vendor, signal (percent and bar, dBm on hover), noise, SNR, channel, band, width, security, mode. Networks that stop being heard turn gray, then drop off after about a minute.

Channels
Each network drawn as a hump, with width for its channel width and height for its signal. Overlapping humps share airtime. Click one to select that network.

Signal
Signal strength over time for the networks you select.

Privacy
Rae.Noted never sends anything anywhere. It has no network code, no analytics, no crash reporting and no update checks. Scan results stay in memory while the app runs and are written to disk only when you export a CSV.
macOS treats nearby Wi-Fi names and BSSIDs as location data, which is why the app asks for Location access. It never asks for or reads your actual location.
FAQ
Why does it ask for Location access?
macOS hides Wi-Fi names and BSSIDs from apps without it. Rae.Noted never reads your actual location.
Can it change my router's channel?
No. It shows you which channel is quieter. You change the channel in your router's settings.
Why don't I see any 6 GHz networks?
Rae.Noted shows what your Mac's Wi-Fi hardware can hear. 6 GHz needs a Mac with Wi-Fi 6E or newer and a 6 GHz network in range.
Why did a network turn gray?
It wasn't heard in the last couple of scans, usually because it's out of range or turned off. It returns if it's heard again and is removed after about a minute of silence.
Does scanning slow my connection?
Each scan briefly takes the Wi-Fi radio off your network. If that matters, set a longer interval in Settings or pause scanning.
How do I update?
The app doesn't check for updates itself. With Homebrew, run brew upgrade --cask rae-noted. Otherwise download the latest version from this page.
How do I uninstall?
With Homebrew, run brew uninstall --zap --cask rae-noted. Otherwise drag the app to the Trash. macOS keeps its entry in System Settings, Privacy & Security, Location Services until you remove it there.
